Picked this up thinking it was WW1 and realised its dated 1899, aswell as the dummy fuse, dont know anything about it other than it doesnt have a case, would be ontop on the charge when fired. I paid 20 from a dealer, what would be a fair value? All new to me just looked nice :)

Looks like a bargain to me even though it's not something I know much about, nice markings.

EvilMike,
Very nice speciman. will the fuze unscrew? I see the shell body and fuze head bear the Royal Laboratory stamps.
Regards,
John

Keep the dealer sweet Mike, you've done well there & you never know what else he may find for you.

Dave.

Naval 12pr has a seperate loading case with the protruding primer, very nice indeed. double bargin.

Thanks guys not yet tried the fuse will give it ago, it all appears in good order so fingers crossed we'll be lucky

I think the case for it is on specialist auctions with the protruding fuze, I have no idea if the price is good though as there is some kind of reserve on it , might be worth enquiring if the dates are close and so on.

Hi,
Did the plug or fuze unscrew? Would love to see what it looks like.
Best Regards,
John

Very nice shell at quite a fair price as well. Good condition and nice clear stampings. Looks like someone already tried to unscrew the baseplug judging by the markings.
Please let me know if you want to sell it.

Regards, Jan

Its in pretty solid and i dont want to force it and damage it as iam not sure the best approach to remove it, obviously there was a special tool to fit the holes, someones had a go at somepoint but it is over 100 years old :)

It must be quite a interesting piece judging by how quick my inbox filled up

Thanks for all the info

Thank you and by all means please do not deface the fuze or plug. It is in the base correct?
John

I would leave the plug well alone, unless the correct tool is used any attempt to remove will damage and mark the brass, as stated above, its probably not been removed in last hundred years.
by the look of your photos there is a "shiny" silvery look to side of shell, has this been chrome or Nickel plated ?
