I picked this up today. At the time it may have been an elaborate lamp as
I saw one like this 50 years ago with a fancy glass shade.
It is possible what I saw was for a bond drive, but the enameled pieces
were the same flag group, it was a long time ago.
However it may not have been either as there is green inside
suggestive of a vase. It came with a nickle plated full shrapnel
projectile in rough condition with a 103 fuze in it. Drilled through
and the projectile drilled down the tube not disturbing the filling.
The fuze can be made good for show with a new top.
Note Quality control lacking 1915 inscription, January 1916 case ~
Inscribed;

18 POUND CARTRIDGE CASE
MADE ------------------- FOR
THE BRITISH FORCES IN FRANCE
1915

After some thought I mounted the case in this original cast brass 18Pr base with period top made for same.
There is no real need for a projectile unless I come across one with excellent period plating and that can
always be added. But with the inscription, it's really just about the case, what came with it could have been
added at any time later. These heavy bases are not at all common, usually some kind of cheaper base was used.
