1895 Austrian Berndorf 37mm shell

hi, this is a nice little Austrian 37mm pom pom round dated 1895 - even has its charge bag (empty) inside the case. But I can't find much about the actual gun on the internet. Was this used in a wheeled gun or one of those small trench guns? Does anyone have a photo of the gun?

thanks in anticipation

Dave

Hi,
could you show base markings please?
it's possible if Berndorf made, an export case.
regards

hi Fert, can you tell anything from this?

regards, dave

I have the same opinion as Fert. Berndorf produced many cases for Krupp. And Krupp bought Gruson in 1893. This round isn't austrian.

The Berndorf factory was owned by Arthur Krupp who belonged to the Krupp family ;-)

The other main contractor of Krupp for artillery cases was DWM with it's "Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe" factory. Some years after 1st WW the "Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe" and the "Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik Arthur Krupp AG" started to use a unique (Krupp?-) headstamp layout but's very hard to find any information about these headstamps.

Hello,
here austro hungarian navy acceptance mark, the crown.

It's interesting to note that this particular shape of 37mm shell, typical for Gruson, can also be found with Karlsruhe produced cartridge cases in South Africa, where they were used by the Boers during the Second Boer War (pictures from this forum thread):
