1943 3.7 inch AA and 1961 3 inch naval

Couple of cases . 1 : 1943 3.7 inch mks 1-3 L/50 AA 94 x 675r
2 : 1961 3 inch steel L/70 Naval 76.2 x 662r

few minor dings pitting to base of steel 3 inch .

Hi the 1961 3" i am really confused ,, the lenght is 662mm but rim diameter is 114mm the L/70 3" has a rim of 138mm . but is the same lenght of 662mm my 1961 has the correct rim diameter for the 76.2 ?50 vickers naval but the lenght for that cart is 613mm ?????? help .....

Yes that is interesting............the 76.2x632/636R OTO/Melara cases are 114mm across the base...but, of course, they have a different (very thick) rim. So I am interested in what the experts have to say....

But when I look closely at the photo of the two cases laid down....it seems that they are very similar in base size. The 3.7in has a rim diameter of 135mm and the 76.2mm case looks slightly larger (noting that the normal 3in 70cal case has a rim diameter of 138mm). So I do not understand where the 114mm dimension came from. That looks like a normal 3in 70cal case to me, from the photos provided.

Hi Charley

1 The case is a 3" Mark N1
2 Fitted to Tiger class cruisers
3 Its identical to the US 3"/70
4 Had a very large rate of fire
5 Was also fitted to the Canadian Restigouche and Mackenzie class distroyers

Thanks Radioman, yes, as I thought. But my query was about the 76.2x662R x114 as mentioned in the quote from Ken68.
