pack howitzer

Hi,

The 3.7 inch howitzer was introduced officially in 1917 ( I have a 1917 dated case) and was called a mountain gun as it was designed to be split into pieces for easy carriage on mules/horses in mountainous terrain. This was one of the first of such guns and they became known as pack howitzers.
The case is a separate charge and the standard projectile was a 20lb shrapnel shell.
