390 MK3/1 Fuze Cover Question...

Darren

Well-Known Member
I have this fuze cover for a 390 Mk3 fuze, it sits on my 390 fuze but is very very loose. Can anyone tell me, would this fuze cover originally had some sort of rubber ring inside the rim of the base of it? (see photo 3)

I have seen other types of fuze covers with rubber rings in the grove so am assuming that this one would have had one originaly, if this is the case anyone happen to have a spare rubber ring for one of these covers?

I don't remember whether it was for the No 390 but some fuze covers also came with a shaped metal band that slipped around the base of the main fuze cover and base of the fuze and was then tightened in place, holding the fuze cover to the fuze. Certainly with one type a protruding tongue of metal was inserted through an open slot and bent backwards to secure the band to the cover and fuze. I don't remember seeing a rubber fitment with that arrangement but it was 30 years ago now.

Thanks for the info, that's great.

Hi Darren,

While on the subject of Mk390 fuze covers, can anyone explain this variation in shape for the No390 Mk2A????

At least the cover you have shown "fits" the fuze profile, but this one appears to be designed to fit at specific locations on the fuze......

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks
Cheers
Drew

Drew, I have covers the exact same shape as yours but for the 221 fuze. I was told recently that the odd shape is pretty likely for identification of specific rounds in the dark.
