Hi everyone,
I recently purchased this case.

The stenciling is:
"SALUTING CTG"
6 POUNDER
BLACK CANNON POWDER
WT OF CTG 0.9 LBS

The stamps are:
S.M.C LOT 1
10-1945 HDH
6 POUNDER MK 1 MOD.1
40, 45, 50 CAL

Measurements can be seen in the photos.

Im looking for any info you can provide on the case/ stamps/ weapon.
Im thinking it may be rare(ish) as its LOT 1?
Symington Machine Corps, Rochester, New York ?

Thanks in advance!

This would be a U.S. made saluting case for a 6 pdr hotchkiss naval gun and the like I believe. Many were used as ceremonial guns after WW1 when it became obsolete. S.M.C.- Singer Machine Company (you know, they make sewing machines)
U.M.C.- Union Metal Cartridge. (as on your primer)
40,45,and 50 cal would refer to the caliber of the gun (length of barrel)
Hope this helps a little, SHAKY
