6inch trench mortar ashtray

Not exactly a restoration more of a conversion,got the front end of a 6inch trench mortar last week ,as you will see from the pics it was just a piece of scrap,but decided to have a play with it today,first of all i gave it a quick brush using a cup brush on the angle grinder then again using the grinder i cut it to make a more or less flat surface then gave it a quick spray with some matt black paint.Only took about an hour and now have a new ashtray for the shed ,can also use it to display fuzes and plugs for this type of trench mortar..

Hi Spott, at least you have saved it from the scrap pile and turned it into some thing useful and like you say its good for displaying fuzes and plugs for this type of trench mortar well done.
