IMG_3258.JPGIMG_3262.jpgIMG_3263.jpgFound this Withworth projectile, 74mm caliber and 74cm long.It was used by the carlistas in a civil war 1872 against the supporters of the Queen IsabelII. The carlistas bought from England some Withworth system cannons in different calibers and types( 45mm,127 and the one showed) After the war these rare projectiles were a nice souvenir and from time to time one could find some pieces, even engraved in silver or gold. After the war, the spanish army used the cannons in the war against the rebels in Philippines, then a spanish province. Only a number 2 marked in the base of the projectile.

That's a really nice shell, hard to find.
Thanks for showing it.
Dave.

Sir:
Do you have a fuze for your Whitworth?
Regards,
John

Very nice Whitworth Bolt! I'm wondering if anyone has a cartridge case for one?

Unfortunately not. It came as you could see, except with a big amount of rust and wax, probably for the use as a candle holder during long years. The wax preserved the shell. Here in Spain is also a rare piece, hard to find, but sometimes in the flea market or in antiquaries we can reach some, engraved and with names and dates from that times, 1870's, souvenirs of the Bilbao siege in the carlistas, civil war. The military Museum in Cartagena has a very nice Withworth cannon in excelent condition, thanks to the restoring works of the Museum friends, wich includes a good number or british guys living in Spain.

Maybe this is the correct fuze for the Whitworth shell. It was actually at the Cartagena Military Museum which has a completely restored gun!IMG_0640.jpgIMG_0642.jpg

I still need a drawing of a British fuze for the Whitworth shell.
Regardds,
John
