Well, all the loose ingredients -computing speed, deep learing, self awareness for computer, machine parts (hardware)- are allready available in abundance. Now we just have to wait untill they are mixed in the correct way and the day arrives that -just like in the movie- skynet becomes self aware and understands that these humans are the biggest danger/enemy for it's existence. That will be the day the terminator movie will have become a prophecy, and the end of the human race. I believe its's not a matter if, but will I still see it in my lifetime.
And they do not neccecerily have to look like the terminator, but may more look like a swarm of insects

The funny thing is that those against masks today will be wearing them before too long to in order to thwart facial recognition technology. The day is almost here where no one can afford to let their face be seen in public. The place to invest your money is in anti-drone technology.
I think the date stated in the first Terminator film was 2028 for the machine started nuclear war.
The day is already here in which you have no idea who is watching you and for what purpose. Think about it - the only way for you to defend yourself in the meta verse is to be a full time IT specialist or have your own AI working for you. How do you guarantee your AI is loyal to you?
