 Sorry to Treff-cat in pic one as i had brought home a different type of 'banger' in the Iceland bags...poor sod thought they were sausages! :tinysmile_twink_t:

Well now,this 50kg is a curious beasty.
Belongs to my northern 'best-mate' in the collecting world and i think its well worth a show on BOCN.

I say its curious as you can see in the pictures that i suspect that the tailfins do not match the case?

Ive talced up the stampings to reveal that the case is 1938 and im sure the tails are later? ('42??)
To me the tails would not fit when there is a baseplate(not shown) attached to the case? Look at the solid plate on the 'cone' and you will see what i mean.
Will take better pics of the cone in daylight,i just got home from the Leeds show and daylight has gone.,plus ive a curry on the go 'cos im starving!!

back soon

Hi Bud
Looks like a harvest of early bomb casings has hit town:wink:
There is however a slight mix and match of the tails and main bomb casing hear.

Still not a big issue though but what you have is the base still attached to a later set of tails from another 50 kg variant and the main bomb casing should have a ring spigot to attach a non fluted set of tails.

I will attempt to renovate the fuse pocket for you as they need extreme
care due to the fine threads and thin walling of the pocket:tinysmile_twink_t2:

Thank you Phil,im sure my pal will appreciate that. ;)

Cheers for confirming my suspicions about the mix 'n' match.. perhaps a new mounting ring could be fashioned?
What do you reckon those later tails are from then bud?

A spigot could be made but would either have to be made of two peices
or made of a thinner metal and spun the term for bending angles in circular steel.

Either way it wouldnt be seen once covered by the cone.

A quick update on this nice 50 kilo is that it is undergoing extensive restoration. My pal and i had a go at restoring the fuze pocket saving the threads. The case has now got a straightened out arse-end and is up for a re-paint.
Here is the primer paint.
