Bakelite pot

F0031

Well-Known Member
A black (or very-dark-brown) bakelite pot, 100mm diameter, 80mm high with lid. Base marked 1107 / 8 in a circle. Inside of lid marked 1092 / 11.

Did this have any military use? Or was it just used to store Brylcreem?

That is a German bakelite butterdish!
They came in different sizes. I thought 3 sizes.

The 10,5 gunpowder containers are different.

This is not a butterdish Maarten
The butterdish come's in 3 different colors and are smaller.
I don't think the German army had that much butter to fill them al up.

I've asked it to someone who collects butterdishes. He said it is indeed a gunpowder container with the lid of a butterdish.

well ive only ever seen bakelite butter containers in a light brown colour?

hope that helps solve the mystery?

Container

Found one like this when we were kids about 9 or 10 it had a simaler top but was more bowl shaped if i remember correctly it was fill of unlubricated condoms, damed if we didn't have good fun with those, it was only later that I relised it wasn't the correct fun.
Seeing these pitcures just brought it to mind I wonder what they did in the heat of battle "Gun oil for lubrication":tinysmile_shy_t:

Another bakelite pot

Acquired another bakelite pot. From Chatham today. Here are the two, side by side.
