Hi
Heres a 303 ammo box that came to Norway during the war via a container drop. Havent touched it since i got it. Originally had 303 ammo in bandoliers. Anyone needs closeups give me a shout and i'll take more pics.

Box

Very nice indeed.

Notice the correlation between the Date of Work of the Royal Laboratory ammunition (RL 10. 5. 44A) and the "Not to be used ..." label which is exactly two years late on 10. 5. 46.

Synchronised guns

Ammunition made for synchronised guns (i.e. guns firing through the propeller) had a shelf life of two years. After that it was relegated to wing gun or turret guns.

By the date of your box, May 1944, there could not have been many synchronised guns left in service though.

303 box

Hi TonyE
I guess because the ammo was meant for the resistance here then it didn't mean much for the synchronising. It would have been used in Lee Enfields and Brenguns. Thanks again. Great to find out about the markings.

Resistance

A slight change of subject, but do you ever see any of the sterile headstamped 6.5 x 55 KJ ammunition dropped to the Resistance? It only had a headstamp of "KJ" at 12 o'clock and "6.5" at six o'clock, but the style of the ammun ition and headstamp made it obvious that it was made by Kynoch.

Nice to see the liner, they are usually missing when i find them. Is it an H13? Does anyone know the relevance of XX949 overstencilled on the lid? could it be the aircraft serial number?
Cheers
