Hi,
recently found this british case, 76x301 R 96mm, here close to a 13pr 9cwt
it's very similar to 12pdr 12cwt anti aircraft fixed shell case, but according to Ian Hogg book, case it's longer 16in

anyone could help me to ID please?
thanks in advance

best regards

It almost looks like one that was drawn, but doesn't have the final rim turned and hasn't been cut to the finish length.

Definitely not a 12/12 anti aircraft case as that one is 405mm as Hogg says. Base rim does look like those on the 12pr 12cwt cases, but the primer is unusual as well. Can you get a shot of the inside showing the primer? Not a case I recognise.

I think Hazord has a good suggestion of an unfinished 13Pr 9 CWT case. This has then been chromed as an ornament.

Hi,
other pics;

I never seen an unfinished case, so maybe you are right.
But my guess is we are another type of case. As you can see from pics, the shoulder it's different from a 13pr 9cwt. Also the body has less volume, the base of the body is 89mm vs 95 of 13pr 9cwt. Finally the rim diameter, it's possible that unfinished case had a rim size so small?
thanks

best regards

It's clear from those two photos that they are definitely not the same case.

Can you post the exact case length and rim diameter measurements in mm?

I think its a differnt case of sorts but dont forget a part finished case would need the rim and lower body turning to size and the neck machined and trimmed to length. What makes me think its different is the VS&M logo, remind me if thats not too early for a case introduced to service in 1915? and the primer looks odd with the recess around the cap and the cap in that form. The 13pr 9 case was apparently a necked down 18pr, now if I was making them for trials I'd start with a finished unfired 18pr case then anneal it and neck it. It is, again my opinion, unlikely that VSM had an early export version in production because no one else had fought a war with aircraft as a real threat. A very interesting case indeed.

Hi,
I encolose some other pics with measurement. I hope will help.

I like 2punder's guess. So could be a navy case?
looking at pics, as you can see mouth is closer to 75mm than 76. What about the 10 pounder Russian?
thanks

best regards
