Butterfly for Christmas.

I had a bit of a headache earlier in the month - Tom my 12 year old put a butterfly bomb at the top of his Christmas list.....PROBLEM!!:eek:oh:
So no pressure I had to put one together quick smart!
Phil kindly got hold of the bomb body for me and I had the rest in the spares box. Lots of cleaning, de rusting and paint and its now ready to be wrapped up. I'll have to explain to him that he's going to have to wait until another (not necessarily next!!) Christmas for the full wing type.
I've just got my fingers crossed Santas sorting something out for me!!!!!!!!:tinysmile_shy_t:
Dave.

My goodness, it seems its no longer a butterfly bug, more a pandemic- more serious than Swine flu!!!! Watch out when you get it, it lasts a lifetime!!
Seriously though, well done Dave - good for you. When Tom grows up your going to have some serious collecting competition!!! I started collecting at Toms age and haven't stopped since- though learn't to specialise as you simply cannot have it all!!!!

cheers Kev

Thanks guys - Spotter I'm afraid I've already got 3 kids so no more thanks......luckily 2 are girls who have absolutely no interest in all the good stuff we all like so I've only got to fund 2 collections (until he gets a job!).
Dave.

I started collecting aged about 11-12, swapping bits and pieces with friends at school, .303 bullet heads and cases from a local range, and the odd grenade and even 12 bore cases! i would have fainted if I had got my hands on a SD2 fuze, let alone a complete one! Well done for being such a great dad, and lucky boy you have, and to everyone else reading this, its this sort of thing that keeps the interest following through the generations. My kids are too young yet to have any real interest, but I'm sure they will come through. I think I may do the same in a few years time, well done, and what a great idea. :tinysmile_shy_t:

Dave, you are lucky as hell to have a son that has your same interest, and I couldn't think of a better father to have than you. Especially, if you can build almost all of an SD2 from your spares box.

I always wanted sons, but have no kids. My best friend's son received some 25mm rounds linked together for his 7th birthday (as he liked the movie True Lies with the Harrier), a 2.75" rocket for his 8th birthday, and a .22 rifle for his 9th birthday. Needless to say, the other little kids and parents at the birthday party get a bit of a surprise when the package gets opened.

Good to hear that Santa has been notified of his expected delivery.

Dave,

You truly are a great dad. My father would bring me gifts from work and the local surplus shop and they were some of the best memories I have! You are very fortunate to have a son that appreciates what you enjoy!

Cheers,
Alan

WOW thanks guys, just caught up with the last 3 posts!
Yes the spares box is finally getting sorted out and its surprising what is in there that's been forgotten about.....:tinysmile_fatgrin_t

QUOTE]

Well, the SD 2 went down very well last year and yes the inevitable question got asked about the full wing version............the spares box took yet another beating and apart from santas littles elves screwing up with the rather bright shade of green this one seems to have worked out quite well too. Thanks to Kev (wings) and Phil (arming wire) a couple of you helped me pull the rabbit out of the hat again this time. I just hope he doesn't ask for anything difficult next year (don't mention 70 and 67 fuzes!!!).
Dave.

My Father bought me a Butterfly Bomb when I was a kid in the 1970's! It was in an antique shop and we didn't know what it was as it was folded up. I remember asking the shop owner what the 'bean can holder thing' was! I recall it being 5. It took me another 25 years before I got hold of the 'bomb' part!
