Canister ?

The construction looks pretty similar to this one :

From "COLECCIÓN DE LAMINAS DE MATERIAL DE LA ARTILLERÍA ESPAÑOLA Tomo 4", 1880

Hello,
Could it be a canister?
Diameter of about 90mm.

Thanks you.

please use the websites picture uploading software.instead of using off site imaging hosts, many of these over time become dead links making posts useless,by using the forums imaging software they will be available for present and future members.

THANKS.
The construction is similar but there is no side tenon.
It was discovered in France in a Vauban fortification sector.

Good morning,
Here are the dimensions.
The weight is 4.663 kg.
Inside, a height of 6 balls.

Hello,
After research, it would be a French grapeshot box for the 4 field gun (84mm), in service from around 1858 to 1875.
Identical box for the 4 de Montagne gun which was in service from 1859 until around 1880.

This zinc bullet box weighed 4.725 kg and was loaded with 41 26 mm bullets weighing 70 grams.

See the attached diagram of the 4-gun box taken from volume VI of General Favé's book.
The X-ray of the projectile at 100 pulses suggests the arrangement of the loading which seems to correspond.

Thanks to General Guy François for his help.
