Downloads - pdf file uploads

Hi,

I was wondering if we could have the size for uploads of PDF files increased.

Lets face it the inability to upload larger size files means that there are some documents that contain valuable information of interest to members that will not be available. The other handicap is that especially when it comes to substantial works the quality deteriorates considerably when the file size is decreased. Here is an excellent example. Compare these two files of the same publication. One is 13.97mb and the other 59.52mb, which one would you prefer?

We could keep the upload size limit as it is but this is at the expense of quality and information being made available.

I have some very interesting ordnance files that are between 100mb and 200mb and one just under 500mb in size and will be producing in the near future one of equal size on Japanese Ordnance from an original manual. For me to share this information with other members I need an increase in size limits.

What is the general thought on this subject?

I think a much larger size would be a lot better as i too have a few big files.
I also have a lot of info but am unsure how to make them into PDF files. anyone know how easy it is?
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul,

I scan my documents at around 200 to 300 dpi to ensure that I get quality results. I also am very fussy that the pages are flat and square. I have a few tricks that I use to get book pages to lie flat, one is placing a pen or pencil on the open spine to help put pressure on this part of the book. If I'm not happy with it I redo it until I get the results that I want. I then go through each scan cropping and adjusting shade etc before I create PDF file.

I use software called "Scansoft PDF Create! 4" and found it really easy and gives perfect results. I just upload, in order, all of my scans and then select "Publishing Quality".

This is the result.

This is one of the files that I did myself. The "Japanese Mine Training Kit Manual" is another one.

I strongly believe that "if it is worth doing, it is worth doing well". After all it only takes a wee bit of extra care to make all of the difference in the results.

Nothing gives me more pleasure than being able to deleat a poor quality file.

Cheers,
