F-codes on WW1 primers

Mathias

Active Member
Hello,

I noticed some of the WW1 primers have an F followed by a number on them.
Is this the filling factory with its specific number? If so, does somebody know the name of the factory that belongs to each number?
I attached some pictures of primers which are marked F3, F5, F7, F11 or F12.

Thanks,
Mathias

No. 11 - ?
No. 12 Cardonald

P.S. Having looked at image 5 it may well be F1 not F11 in which case it is Leeds.

Hello Tim,

Thank you very much for the info about the National Filling Factories and manufacturers of the primers!
You are right, it can also be F1 instead of F11 on the primer of image 5.

Best regards,
Mathias

Mathias,

No. 1 Western Electric Co. Ltd., North Woolwich.
No. 9 Unique & Unity Cycle Co. Ltd. (An educated guess, out of all the manufacturers listed under U, there is only one U & U)

Tim
