F-S Knives

A few pics of a CASE V-42 stiletto (as issued to the "First Special Service Force") next to a numbered First Pattern Fairbairn Sykes. Both beautifully balanced knives.

The FS today. The Italian 185th Recce Regiment (Special Forces) has a modern version of the FS as its ceremonial dagger. This is because the 185th is the heir of the F Recce Squadron which operated between the end of 1943 and 1945 under the British XIII Army Corps. Since the Squadron was operational as the 1st Italian Commando, the FS was supplied to its members. The F Recce Squadron is famous for carrying out the last combat jump of the Second World War (Operation Herring).

Very nice, thanks for showing. What is the purpose of the holes in the cross guard?

Got the answer: By inserting the handle into a tube of suitable size, the holes on the guard are used to pass the laces and fix the FS to the tube, transforming the whole into an improvised spear.

Two more variant of the Extrema Ratio FS: the 185th cerimonial dagger with the Regiment motto: Videri Nec Videri (to see without being seen) and the Operation Herring commemorative. The ceremonial dagger in the photo is a customized example since the handle is not blued and it was released in 2020.
