For the Torpedo nuts ...

I was lucky enough to visit the Naval Museum in Madrid, Spain last week. I's a must for anyone interested in early boats and related naval items. I know information on early Torpedoes, and particularly pictures, are thin on the ground so hopefully these ones will be of interest.

Thanks, Barney,
Always difficult to find torpedo items, particularly early Whitehead and similar. Note the cable cutter incorporated in the striker of the centre of the three mounted eg's.
Italy seems to have been a very enthusiastic proponent of torpedo warfare from the outset.
The whole field of design and development in lance, free-running and wire controlled torpedos is complex and, as you say, very under-recorded.

Mate - I'm turning a rather dark shade of green and dribbling profusely!!! LOL

I gather from your photos the torpedo description signs are now missing from the propellers?

If so it would be a damn shame as the original descriptions accurately described the Schwarzkopf torpedo types and models.

I'll search around and see if I can find them.
Enjoy yr trip!
Cheers
Drew

This was the information on the three pictured Drew.
I could only add 10 pictures to each post and somehow this one got deleted.

Thank you Darrel - I could never track down that sign. They once had individual signs on the tails as shown below:

Spain only exclusively purchased Schwarzkopf up until the 1920s - and the 3x Schwarzkopf torpedoes shown provides fabulous comparison to the equivalent Whitehead ones he "supposedly" copied. There are indeed some subtle minor differences.

Those descriptions are no longer there, but certainly add to the information. Cheers
