As others have said in the projectile section, the No. 101 fuze was a standard percussion fuze fitted to WW1 High Explosive shells (typically 18 pdrs) from 1916 onwards. It was fitted with a gaine (screwed into the bottom of the fuse) to ignite the HE charge, but they are often found without this.
The fuzes used on shrapnel shells were of the Time & Percussion ( T & P ) type that could also be set to detonate from 0 to 21 seconds, whereas this fuze is of the percussion only type - eg. explode on impact.
