Found this today, looks like a more modern version than the kind I used with time ring and fuze setter.

Also marked; BWV85F016-020

marked INERT on the base.

No date ? , I expect as common as dirt but I found it interesting, any comments on when and usage appreciated.

Fuze MTSQ M577

The M577 was used on 105mm howitzer base ejection smoke ammunition in Canada, it may have also been used on illuminating ammunition but I do not recall for sure. The M577A1 is still in service. I do not have any tech data with me right now so I can not tell the difference between the two.

The lot number BWV85F016-020 would indicate the date of manufacture as June 1985.

Thanks

I never saw one when I was on the 105. We did fire some illuminating of WW2 vintage. Only WP for smoke.

We didn't see or use anything remotely exotic. The wooden boxes with illuminating rounds had the U.S. foreign aid handshake marking on them. It was at the time a big deal to fire CVT fuzed rounds. 105 cases were drawn brass, steel and coiled steel.

Gordon,

In the States, before the newer electronic time fuzes came out, they were the preferred fuze for the submunition cargo projos in 105H, 155H, and 8 inch howitzer. The fuze setter is simply a screwdriver blade with a mushroom shaped doorknob like piece to hold onto while turning the screw in the nose to set the time.

Hi,

I only saw these on the US M483 bomblet shell when working on SP70 in the early 1980s.

Easy fuze to set!

Best Regards,

Hobbit
