Help with WW1 Cartridge Case Maker Monograms - List 2 - Symbols

Darkman

Well-Known Member
Here is the second batch of Ron's unknown WW1 maker monograms for identification.
These are symbols and I have tried to draw them as best I can. Unfortunately they may suffer from being transcribed from 2nd hand drawings - I have not seen the originals, so the symbols may not look exactly as drawn.
I suspect most are Canadian, but not sure. Any help greatly appreciated.

1. "B LD/D B" on 1916 dated 18 PR case
2. "CAC or "CCA" on 1917 dated 18 PR case
3. "CCCC" on 1917 dated 12 PR 12 Cwt case
4. "CCO" on 1916 dated 13 PR case
5. "CCS" on 1917 dated 18 PR case

Refer drawings below.

Thanks,

Graeme

The first one could be Burt Brothers Birmingham, but not sure
Cannot help with two and three.
Four looks like the Canadian Cartridge Co., Hamilton, Ontario
Five is Drigg Seabury & Co., Sharon, Pa, USA.

1 & 2. Can't help - would very much like to see a photo
3. Maybe a very corrupted Standard Screw Co.
4. As Tony states - Canadian Cartridge Co.
5. A later version of the Canadian Cartridge Co. monogram (after they had made their first million 18 pdr cases?) I recently saw a late case of theirs sporting the CCO monogram, it wasn't an 18 pdr, I wondering if they just used CCS on 18pdr cases.

Tony - Although the the Drigg Seabury monogram is very similar, the outer 'C' is actually a circle and the 'S' is within a square.

Regards

Tim

Thanks Tim & Tony,

My drawings are reproduced from hand sketches, so I don't know how faithful to the originals they are. I will try to get photos, but this will take a while.

Cheers,

Graeme
