Good Morning All,
For members who have an interest in early vintage bronze/steel torpedoes (late 1800s) and /or have been to visit the Explosion Museum at Gosport, here is the official identification of the ones on display.
Many thanks to Darren and Slick for their superb photos and acknowledgement must be given to John Roberts from the Explosion Museum for providing the detailed torpedo identifications.
Enjoy! (I certainly did!!!)
Cheers
Drew
BTW - The museum has advised that the vertical standing nose is from a US Howard torpedo, late 19th century. (IMO, a late 19th century Howard torpedo pistol would look more like the very last photo) I have always thought this was a German /Schwartzkopf and the body construction seems to align almost perfectly to the diagram shown of a German 45cm torpedo pistol................(hint: have a close look at the shear pin holes in relation to the safety pin one, and the ring of water dispersion holes - even appears to have the detaching hole on the nose section)
Any thoughts on this?
