I could'nt resist this one:

(Apologies for the external link but I have not recieved it yet to take my own pictures)

Aparently it is a late WW2 German grenade based on the SD 0.5 bomblet.

I mistook it for a concreate 'Volks' grenade at first but it is differant (and metal)

As always im on the scrounge for information! If anyone has any details on this type that would be great, im not even sure of what the fuze type is!

Best Regards

Justin

The fuze i guess would be the BZE as used on the Egg grenades , In the Channel islands these were locally made of a weak cement mix , similar to the stockmine.

Hi Justin,
I have one of these in my collection and was told that they are indeed a SD0.5 and the fuze used was a ANZ29(with pull ring).
I shall take a piccy over the weekend as im due to buy some more batteries tomoz for the digi-camera. :)

cheers

Im sorry, but there are some mistakes here: this is grenade made late war from a submunitions used by the Luftwaffe. It has to have the BZE39 or BZE40 fuze used in the Egg M39 and M43 Stickgrenades, Waff, the ANZ29 has no delay.. do you guess what would happen if you pull off an ANZ in a grenade :tinysmile_cry_t2:. More, Im afraid that you have a post war wings, maybe the entire fuze, installed in your grenade, Germans NEVER marked the BZE39 fuzes in WWII. This grenade has nothing to see with the concret Volkshandgranate, just both used the same fuze.

Hi Miguel Thanks for that information , the pieces we found in Guernsey had traces of metal around them , and filled with concrete , but it was locally produced by a German engineer on the island , no records exsist on their design , probably baked bean tins were used.or any available tin.

Thanks for all the replies guys - I would have never have guessed that it had a post war fuze fitted! Doh!!!!!

If anyone has the correct fuze for this grenade at a reasonable price PM me as it will now drive me mad to look at it knowing its not complete!!!!

Hi,

My theory;
It's nothing more like some failed Luftwaffe "small bomb" (SD) project.
They make a lot of bodies... nearing the end of the war, everything was useful. So, the starting make a granades, and other ordnance.
I have seen foto from battlefild relict from Ukraine; this small "SD" body fitted with D.Z 35 mine fuze.
Fuze hole in this body it's "universal", lot of german fuzes can be used.

Here some of mine;

Regards.

a beaut

Post WW2 fuze or not, that is one bitchin' grenade bud. It is made from a sub-munition. I'd have bought it but he would not ship to U.S. So what you'll have is a legit WWII grenade with a tad later fuze. I'd still buy it if he had shipped to U.S. (for what that's worth). It is not common and would make a fine addition to any grenade collection as improvised grenades are the coolest of all. 2 thumbs up...Dano
