Good morning, does anyone have a photo of a No.122 fuze? From its description it would appear to be very similar to a No.121.

No.122 fuze photo

I've never seen a drawing of a no 122 and information is thin on the ground. They were a modified version of the no 121 used on the 1.57" trench mortars with an extended gaine. They were unmarked as to number and usually dated 1915.

That’s very interesting Darrel as the one I have is unmarked as to Fuze number and apart from a safety pin which I have never seen on a 121 or 124 before, is identical to a 121

I take it that the gaine or exploder is screwed into the base of the fuze?
Thanks Chris, confirming what Darren’s photo shows, the safety pin. Although yours is marked 122 and mine and apparently Darren’s hare no fuze number marked

On list of ww1 fuzes 122 is a modified 120 (with HE gaine) for 1.57in TM.
I already saw a 120 with HE gaine on 1.57in HE projectile (so a No 122).
No 120 had no notched ring.
So, as Chris fuze is marked 122, I assume 2 versions of No 122, one with head of 120 and one with head of 121 (with notched ring, I assume for auto fuze setter).
No 123 is also for 1.57 TM (with HE gaine), and same shape as 121. So not easy to make the difference.

If it has a safety pin then it is a no 122 Dave.

I think that list can be confusing at times. I believe the no 120 was modified for use on the trench mortar by use of a safety pin but there was no change of number. The no 121 Mk II was also modified but this time it was renumbered to no 122. After the early fuzes I don't think we ever numbered two different fuzes with the same number.
