Nordenfelt 57x224R case marked N.

Obtained a nice 57mm Nordenfelt cartridge case with canister shot today. The base of the case is only marked with 'N', no dates or other markings. Could it be that the single N stands for Nordenfelt? Thanks.

Thanks Falcon. The thing is that most 57mm Norderfelt I came across are marked EP. Searched the web and also found the most common ones are marked EP as well. No indication of any cartridge case out there with the single N as marking. I presume that the lack of any date is related to the early ones?

Yes, I believe these were all made in the very late 1800s or early 1900s. "EP" (Ecole Pyrotechnique) is Belgian if you didn't already know that.

Hi Falcon,
Thanks for the EP info i picked one of these up recently at a car boot and was wondering what it stood for.
Best regards Weasel.
