Old JAL Airline ticket

I got a box of euphemera which belonged to a German who was born in 1898 in Germany but lived in US. The box contained his 1967 US passport, many postcards, slides and other souveniers, and many old airline tickets. Some from companies I never knew existed like Australian TAA. It also had this paper by JAL. May someone explain to me the meaning and purpose of this document? I am serious.

It used to be that crossing the International date line was considered an event worth celebrating. We need an old Navy guy to explain it better.

Interesting document. My first trip to Japan was on JAL but nothing like that was given out. It was however 30 years later so times had changed. Nothing on subsequent trips with Virgin Atlantic or ANA either.
