This was another item snapped up at last Sundays Mil Convention at Malvern. Jay & Paul of Dugup had bought it earlier in the day off another dealer and asked me to have a look at it as i used to specialise in German, US and Brit WW2 aircraft relics etc. The guys had paid 85 for it which i said was little bit steep, but that said quality relics like this are getting harder to find now and its a nice big hefty lump in good nick considering its been in the ground for donkeys. Anyway i told the guys if it hasnt gone at the end of the day (which it should) let me know and i will have it off em. Well, it didnt sell and so i did a deal with the guys and here it is. Its just a shame that whoever dug this particular crash site did not log the details with the item. These things are essential in preserving the history and respect for the poor guy who may have been killed in the aircraft. Thats the major problem with aircraft relic diggers these days-too much emphasis on making a quick buck and not enough on preserving the context of their finds. This was one of the reasons i stopped doing aviation as most the guys i did go on digs with hated me logging down locations and other details which i felt was important. History or knowledge should never be denied especially if youre asking someone to pay.
