I just picked up a dated 1940 German 30mm projectile and noticed the fuze is much smaller in diameter than a dated 1945 fuze that I already had. I never gave it a thought until I compared both of them together. And was wondering why such a size difference.
Hi,
The 1940 projectile would be for the MK 101 a regular pattern HE projectile.
The 1945 is a high capacity HE (M-Geschoss) projectile with thin walls the fuze acts also as a front ogive. It was used with MK 103 and MK 108.
For more info I recomend the LDv 4000 manual or the manual in this link: http://lexpev.nl/downloads/handbuchderflugzeugbordwaffenmunition19361945.pdf
