Penetrator, Core ?

SHAKY

Really can't figure this out. I only guess at it being a AP core or such. 24.5 mm at its widest tapers down to 22.5 at base and is 70mm long. Only markings a R/l\L at 6 o'clock and IV at 4 o'clock. Any ideas ?

Looks very much like the core of a 1in mg round, normally seen with a brass jacket. I'm sure a quick search on the forum under 1 in mg or similar will give pictures.

As 2pounder says, it is the steel core of a 1 inch Nordenfelt Mark IV projectile which has lost its brass envelope.

The Mark IV Steel was approved in March 1883 and shown in Lists of Change Paragraph 4273 of June 1883.

Great info Gentleman. To me it looked old but couldn't pin it out between the somewhat more modern items. I am pleased as this came with a few other similarly aged smaller items.
Cheers, SHAKY
