SC500 Restoration pt 1

Now it time to start the heavy stuff.

Removal of the thin steel sheet revealed a lot of practise holes
drilled into the casing.

These will be repaired at a later date.

next remove the trepaned holes and re align the peices and weld them
back in.

20 minutes with the oxy torch got the filler plug hot enough to move with
a brass drift,and them free enough to turn by hand.

weld up all the scuff marks and the key slots and then re dress them.

A quick coat of red oxide and plenty of copper grease and back in with the plug.

Ready for the next stage once it dries up a bit.

I had a match colour to the mid grey that i did all the 50s in
so that will be the colour the fat one goes in.

She is a big beast and quite heavy too.
Not as fiddly as those SD2s thank god

I have one or two people i know in the EOD who got it released
to me for preservation,as it was going to be scrapped.
