hi guys

all firearms and shotgun certificate holders please read this below

There is an alert to bogus callers masquerading as Policemen asking for gun-related info over the phone. Basically, we should all know the real names and numbers by of our firearms department by now. so Double-check anything suspicious by calling them before giving out any info. The article is reprinted below.

Gun owners in bogus calls warning
About 600,000 people in the UK have shotgun certificates. Gun owners have been warned not to give information about their firearms over the phone after a spate of calls from bogus police officers.
North Yorkshire police have received reports from two gun owners who took calls from someone asking for details about the security of their shotguns.
When the certificate-holders contacted the force they learned that the calls had not come from the police.
Other cases have since come to light in Scotland, London, Devon and Cornwall.
All the incidents are believed to have happened within the past six weeks.
Security alert
North Yorkshire Police's intelligence division is investigating the calls but has not yet identified who was responsible.
The reports have prompted the British Association of Shooting and Conservation (BASC) to issue a security warning to the UK's 600,000 shotgun certificate holders.
A BASC spokesman said: "We would advise all our members who are certificate holders not to divulge any information over the phone about either their firearms or security.
"Presumably whoever is doing this is asking for details about security with a view to stealing these guns. We haven't had any thefts reported yet, thank God."
