I don't normally go for "trench art" but got this one as a curiosity.
What on earth has gone on here!!
I think it started life as a 20 X 129.
All INERT of course.

This is done to test the strenght of the case, when I worked at the ammunitionfactory Eurometaal this was done on a few cartridge cases per lot number.
 
Thanks for that, how interesting, I hadn't realised they did that.......so.....was this one strong enough? Looks like it got mashed to me.

They would have probably used higher pressures at set intervals until it collapsed. A batch of cases that collapsed at a pressure over a set acceptable limit would be accepted for use. Tests like this are done on alot of items, they call it destructive testing.
