Shell Case

Here is a shell case, turned into a poker, fire place stuff holder.

I haven't got a clue where it's from???

Any ideas?

Looks like a German WW1 case for the 77 mm Krupp fieldgun Model 1896. Your case also has the stamp "Bl" if I look closely, which I have not yet seen on these cases. This typically means "Blind". Not sure what the correct UK translation is but something like practice I guess.
Normal cases are 23 cm long.
 
In the US, Blind loaded refers to pratice rounds in which sand or other material is used to replace the explosive, so that the total weight of the projectile equals the weight of the exploaise one.
