I have a confession to make, yes, I am a Slade fan. And this movie's soundtrack has some of the best songs for me https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072993/, just listen to the first song, very pertinent to the New Year and uncertain future https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ulvp0WCALq4, and if you like it, here is the WHOLE movie for FREE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7rS_h5NQzI.
I think the Grand Hotel at the beach is Grand Brighton? Correct? I never set foot in the UK, maybe the looks of the hotel will do.

Back in my yoof I worked as a photographer and was commissioned to photograph Slade and Thin Lizzy at the Rainbow theatre in London. Opening act was Suzi Quattro. What a brilliant night out. The Green room before hand with masses of alcohol - I asked for a Bacardi and Coke. It was 50% 50% in a pint beer glass. That's rock and roll living!

I'd met and photographed Thin Lizzy before. Both groups were really nice people and Slade were so experienced they made the PR shots easy work.

Happy days.

I'd give up a box of .303 British to be in your shoes that day (well, maybe half a box)

I've known about this for a while but never got round to watching; really worth seeing then? My dad used to tell me that Dave Hill drank at his local (though this may be BS, as with many of his tales...). All cool bands.

This movie has a high general IMDb rating. The story is one of mix-up between the bands and their interactions with impresarios. I can't call this story line enlightening or historically correct (it is a fantasy). I watched it for music and just seeing my heroes when I was a late teenager. I come from a different background than you. I lived in USSR where rock music was not outright forbidden but also not freely available. Very few people in Moscow had English rock albums, so one would exchange albums with friends and tape them on reel-to-reel recorder. Outside Moscow and Leningrad people had no opportunity to do this, no base of album owners. I was very lucky and fortunate to even know this music. But photos of bands were very rare, besides the album art. So watching a movie like this would be a dream.

They certainly did, I only had about 40% hearing for two days after that concert. I was standing at the side of the stage taking photos and a huge PA stack was about 10 feet to my right side.

Doing work like that is probably why I have hearing aids now.
