The 7th Regiment Memorial of 1861-1865, Central Park West, New York City

This is an American Civil War memorial inside the Central Park. Of course, on the winning Union side. I personally have no family ties to this American war. But I do have my opinion. When the USA basically separated into 2 countries in 1860, which was (and still is) quite legal, some Union forces refused to leave Fort Sumter, therefore precipitating 4 years of destruction. In my mind, this action by the Union forces was totally illegal. I wish The US Supreme Court could weigh in on this case, purely from historical perspective, since we can't bring all those dead to life. Anyhow, here is the monument.

Now, even war memorials have peaceful purpose in life. Enlarge the photo below, and look at the BRIDGE of the bayonet hanging in the back of soldier's left hip. You'll see a SPARROW under the shield of the cloak.
