The United States of America's most Highly decorated soldier...

Hi V40,

Interesting read, thanks for the post.
The website states... "Colonel Howard is one of America's most decorated soldiers". It was my understanding that Audie L. Murphy was THE most decorated US soldier. Audie Murphy's accomplishments are legendary. Have they been surpassed by Colonel Howard?

Yes, he surpassed Audie Murthy because on three seperate occasions in 17 months, he was put in for the MOH. He only earned one though. He had 3-4 Silver Stars, 5-6 Bronze Stars all with oak leaves, The Navy's Cross was also issued to him. If you ever get a chance to read some books in MACVSOG Col. Howard was a hero to everyone. He did things in SEA that would blow even Audie Murphays experiences. Col. Brown had a very large collection of Parachute medals from just about anywhere in SEA and abroad. I believe he had 17 of these medals

If you all only new what they did in Laos and Cambodia, an A Shau Valley, you would have the hair on your back rise to these expoitlations.

Tid Bit: SOG had only 600 men assigned to SOG Ops. Also, at any one time there were at least 6-7 teams on the ground in Cambodi & Laos, with approximately 6-12 man teams. That in itself held up the 40,000 NVA troops from crossing the border into South Vietnam.

This was probably the best economy of forces ever in the history of warfare.

Murphy;

I believe Murphy's positon was the most decorated solder in WWII. Whereas Howard's was cited for galantry in Vietnam.
Regards,
John

We also have a Navy E-9 SEAL that was highly decorated as a MOH receiptent.

Joun,

That is correct. Audie Murphay was the most decorated soldier in WWII. Col. Howard was of all time!

Guys in the UK who is yours?
