Unidentified box?

Here is a unidentified metal box. I would like to pick it up, but I`m not sure what for it.

And the second one is made of wood and seems like there are two different labels on the side (Polish and British ).

I suspect the metal box is for a Vickers gun.

I would guess the wooden box is an H.1 Can you check the dimensions and is there any stampings on the base?

Yes, it could be very likely it`s for a Vickers. I can`t check the dimension yet, I have only pictures.

Thanks

Hi!

Thanks munitionskiste, interesting site!

I have bought of both crates and some closer pictures ensuing here. I found some german markings (marine?) on the lid of metal box and i have fixed the feeding slot. It could be probably for the machinegun?

Well, at least it doesn't look like I need to change the Vickers website or try and acquire something new for the collection. It looks, to me, like to it could be an ammunition box used for feeding some sort of anti-aircraft or fixed machine gun mounting.

Hello Endel,
don't have the oal measurements of a 15mm Besa rounds on hand, but the German Navy used them - so could the box be for that?
Erik

I looked around the internet and I found this site and the picture. It is a photo of the 15 mm BESA on a spring-wheel carriage. Earlier fittings surely.

I don't think the markings are original, it looks like they were added some time after its first use. The black stencil is painted on top of the yellow paint and you can see some straight lines through the yellow paint where there seems to have been something like metal banding and the "T" of the word LOT appears inside this straight line of missing yellow paint. I can't decipher the markings but they don't seem to indicate anything ammunition related.

Ill second lcpl combat, that the first crate is a transportation crate and not necesarily ammunition related, it does have an American look to it though.
