I think this is a British round. Enclosed is sellers info.
Very good condition original, but of unidentified origin, WWI era 75mm artillery shell. Brss case has nice looking patina and a few dents. The sole marking is “R” on the bottom. Projectile appears to be a gas round and has three red painted bands and seven black painted crosses. Also marked “RW”. Nice looking brown patina. Fuze is marked “BH” and “PDF MIIIA” Inert, safe and legal to own. Measures 28 1/8” tall overall. A hard to find shell for your collection.

A fantastic looking round!

A few more pics. Looking like it's a US.

Hello,
Could you post a picture of the shell without case to see the base ?
TIA

The fuze seems to be marked MIIIA
The fuze MIIIA is described similar to PDF MIII but without centrifugal interrupter.
Your fuze is fitted with the interrupter so I'm lost !!

I was interested in this shell but not for the price it sold for and that's not including $60 shipping or sales tax. In CA that would be around 8%. The person that won it only had one feedback rating.

I read too quickly the doc, MKIII A could be made with or without centrifugal plunger.

In none of the photos shown with the listing were the projectile and fuze taken apart to show they are indeed inert and safe. I emailed the seller about this and his reply was, no I have not taken it apart and I am out of town until after the auction closes, good luck with your bidding. That was not a reply that made me comfortable in any way. The manual list this projectile as special gas, I was told years ago that the three red bands indicate Mustard Gas, special indeed.

Maybe wear a full faced respirator when removing fuse? Pretty sure we all have stories dealing with ordnance. I remember once at a local gun show somebody was trying to sell two 8 inch Civil War cannon balls he dug up from the mud at Vicksburg. Took a look at them and realized they were never de-milled. Fuse's never taken off. What really scares me with Civil War ordnance is Mercury type fuse's.
