unidentified projectile

Well-Known Member
Morning to all,
I have this projectile, that at the time I got it,was told it was a 20mm practice Hispano.
The problem that I have with this is that it has a diameter of 18mm,even the simple test of putting it in a case results in it fitting like a dogs willy in a dustbin!(other hispano projs I have fit snug in said case).
Overall lenght is 82mm,has a copper drive band and is marked with BHM 259,the khaki paint(which looks original to me) I believe to be the colour code for early practice rounds?
Photographed with other 20mm Hispano projectiles and a 20mm MG 151/20 round.
Any help with this id would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers
Tony

Oerlikon Practice.

If we are talking about the first picture projectile then it is in fact a 20mm Oerlikon as the base is a smaller diameter below the driving band.
Grey was also the "practice" colour of the day.

Just to add to what Chris has written, the driving bands are usually narrower on the Oerlikon than on the Hispano.
