US 90mm

Anymore info on this US 90mm would be appreciated. Interesting I have seen the US 90mm complete with projectile being passed off as a German 88mm for sale from time to time at gun shows and people buy them.
Thanks

The shell casing was manufactured by CHA (Chase Brass & Copper CO, CT) in 1953 and filled by OAP (Ordnance Assembly Plant, MD) .

Thanks for the info, my brother brought one of these 90mm shell casings home when he was in the Marine Corps. It was made from aluminum.

Although it was over forty years ago I always thought it was aluminum but it coould have been zinc plated steel.

90mm Recoilless rifle cases are made out of aluminum, straight piece of aluminum open at both ends, a little over a foot long. 90mm tank cases were never made of aluminum. Too much pressure.

The U.S. doesn't use aluminum cases very much for large Ordnance. 30mm GAU-8/9 and DEFA, 40mm grenade, AT-4, 90mm Recoilless, and some flare and chaff cases are the only production cases I can think of. Yes, the AT-4 uses a case. There is a Carl Gustav case in the rear portion of an AT-4 launcher. It isn't removable though.

Here's a 1953 steel T24B1. Could someone tell me the manufacturer EPO is ?
Cheers, SHAKY

HAZ, Ya just didn't try hard enough. ANYTHING is removable to a determined Jarhead EOD Tech with a 4' pipe wrench, a bench vise and a cheater bar. Oh, I forgot the K-Bar. Cheers, Bruce.

OK Bruce, so was the "removed" case in any type of good shape, or was it a twisted clawed up piece of scrap?

As it's been a while since I'd been out in the particular shed used for storage of the big stuff, figured I'd go out and see what I had in the 90MM variety. (Sheesh! way hot out there.) May be fall before I try THAT again.
Anyway, noted that in the '44 dated case, there's a '52 dated primer; the '53 dated case has a '62 primer.
Both are big, heavy brass shells. I think there are a couple of projectiles for them, but it's too hot to dig that deep. See: FALL

UPDATED 3:03P

Found this WW2 era loading data.

Shell, 90MM 001 (634x800).jpg Shell, 90MM 002 (676x800).jpg

Also, thumbed through FM 17-79, TANK, 90-mm GUN, M48 (1955)

Just noticed the stencil markings on the newer shell doesn't list the M48 gun.

Nothing on ammo, although they did mention a sub-caliber training device, which may or may not be cool.
