US M27A1B1 High Burst Ranging Signal

Attached are a few photos of an Inert US M27A1B1 High Burst Ranging Signal. These were rifle launched signals used to simulate the airburst of an artillery shell for ranging practice. When launched, the signal would rise to a height of approximately 700 feet before bursting with an accompanying flash, puff of gray smoke and a noise that could be heard for a distance of at least 2000 yards. The body portion is made of a gray colored non-metallic material and the tube and fin assembly is similar to other US Rifle Launched Flare Signals.

Nomenclature on this example is:

SIGNAL GROUND
HIGHBURST RANGING M27A1B1
(ORDNANCE BOMB SYMBOL)
UMO T2
2-54

Stay safe,

Frank

Here's one more, though mine looks like it was attacked by an ordnance woodpecker.
