Hello,

I'm looking for info about this round (empty).

This shell looks like a Naval 3inch Illuminating with a TSM M54. In my books the 3in Ill use only fuze for naval service.

Base diam : 75mm
Lenght without fuze : 224mm (without ejection base)

(Doc : 3in Ill naval service = 238mm with base)

Cheers.

Minenaz16,

By your questions, you have evidently entered an area where the 76mm gun on the Super Sherman was used. That 76mm gun is the only Army gun that I know of that ever used a Navy Illum projectile, and it used the Mark 25 Mod 1 Projectile. I'm attaching the datasheet for the round, and it specifies the exact fuze you mention. I have the original manual for the gun, where these drawings are shown in the ammo section. It is nice to know that the Illum was actually fired. Many times rounds are listed for guns but no evidence of the rounds being fired exists.76mm Mk 25 Mod 1 Illuminating.jpg
