Hi guys ive just got a clip of 4 40mm bofors rounds from an AC 130 aircraft no 69-5831 of the 352nd SOG/67th SOS.
unfortunatley the projectiles have been replaced with resin ones 2 of the cases have been signed by the crew, could anyone point me in the right direction as regards colour and type of projectile.

Info about the round:

You Tube video Titled "AC-130 Gunship Power" :

Second video. If you pause it when the bofors rounds are feeding, then do a right mouse button and hit zoom in, you can see the coloring of the rounds:

Great video showing the bofors rounds feeding during firing:

Good video of loading ready racks and lots of firing:

Attached some photos from the belly of the beast. The first shows a clip of PGU-9B/B HEI rounds in back on the Bofors gun while the crew is firing the 105 Howitzer. THe PGU projectiles are flat yellow with a light red (dark pink) band below the fuze to denote the Incendiary fuction of the Zirconium liner.

If you watch the video closely there are a few frames showing clips that alternate HEI rounds with AP-T rounds. Check out the ready rack behind the 105 Howitzer in the first photo, to hold 100 rounds!

Very nice acquisition there tomsk. Have been trying to add a similar sample to my collection of AC130U goodies. Here's what I've got so far: challenge coin, T-shirt, 105 shell

I don't think so. This one and the challenge coin were given to me by a crew member.

ive got a 105mm cartridge from the ac 130 also a beer can cooler sleeve that says SPECTRE YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU'LL ONLY DIE TIRED.

Tom

Just added a pic of the letter I got with my 105 shell. Click on it a couple or three times and it enlarges enough to be readable.

Interesting letter Slick. It's too bad that there is such a paranoia about inerting ordnance cartridge cases. The rules behind that letter have turned highly trained EOD personnel into grunt monkeys forced to drill holes into ordnance residue. Lovely, instead of studying in their field of expertise, they drill holes so some bureaucrat can feel good about himself.
