I found a U.S. civil war pelican grenade $7999.99
Is $7999.99 to much to pay for a grenade,it is a extremly rare and desirable grenade, and is not in many collections,is the market value or the collectable bragging rights the limit.

That must be the highest price for a grenade i have ever heard of.:tinysmile_cry_t:
A very rare grenade but way to expensive in my opinion.

What is the question - what is your limit, or what is my limit? It's a lot of money, that's clear. But you may decide that $50 is your limit, I may decide $500, someone else $5000. If no one agrees with $7999 the seller will lower it till they find someone else's limit. Civil War ordnance is kind of a specialised area of collecting in the US, kind of like fox hunting in the UK. Not something that a lot of us common folk have access to.

Personally, while I can appreciate the history, there are a lot of WWI, WWII or more recent pieces that I would have much more interest in with my $8000. The wife would kind of like to see the kids out of college as well....

That's probably cheaper that one of the top end Japanese swords and just as rare, I think a lot depends on how rich your fellow collectors are feeling. If a couple of people want that grenade enough then it'll sell.

The last one I saw on auction in the US was $10,000 so this one is a comparative steal.

You know everything is relative. I just saw in the news a day or so ago that the first Superman comic sold for $1,000,000.00. There are multiple copies of it in collections, but this copy was supposed to be in better shape than most. The buyer had purchased a lesser quality copy a few years back from the same seller of this record setting one.

So, grenade for $8K, peanuts. That comic is equal to 125 of those grenades, at least to the people involved.

Someone paid a $1,000,000 dollars for a Superman comic the other day, but you can't throw it very far.

What someone pays is down to them. It's linked to rarity and how many people are chasing it. The most I've ever paid for a grenade is just under 200 and I had to lie down all day the next day to recover. We don't need any of this stuff. The determining factor is how strong your collecting urge is and what you think is worth paying to satisfy the urge!

I would buy grenade for $10,000 if he was made from gold:)
I think that in Europe it is no possible to sell grenade for so high price.
Even if I have meny items in my collection and I dont wont to sell it,when Im buying new item Im thinking that If I have to sell it I dont wont to loose to much money.

Here's one for the forum then?
What would a Roland Grenade be worth if if came up for auction? Its the gren that was the precursor to the mills Gren and from which the Mills design came from. Never seen one in the flesh nor up for sale and if one did i bet the price would be very high indeed.

Yep Vinny, Fact is if you have the bread and can spare it, and want that grenade bad enough then buy it. The only reason I say this is I have been watching this thread closely and from what i've read it soinds like a bargain. I am not even familiar with this grenade so if you buy it we'll be needing some pictures. I have always said the buyer is who makes the worth of ordnance (what the market will bear...yada yada). You know the price of American Civil War artifacts. Good luck with whatever you decide...Dano

On the topic of limits it only takes one person out of everyone else in the world to pay a seemly exorbitant price for any type of item, it all depends on the buyer and how much they want it. Museums with generous benefactors will also sometimes go to any price / length to obtain an item that they are interested in.

Advertising to a worldwide market also defiantly makes a difference. I have had items in the past that I carried to shows for years with no interest, then listed them on Internet Auction and received up to three times the original asking price.

When the pricing reaches levels mentioned in this post, I am the guy on the sideline eating popcorn and watching the action :smokin:.

Thanks everybody

Thank you for your opions, this is truely a great site for the ordanance collector.
