Wooden Ammo Crate identification please!

box1.jpgbox2.jpg

Can anyone help with the above? My firsy thought was that it was .303 ammo crate.

The box was turned into a packing crate for General Sir William G Stirling, a very high up General and it is belived that this went with him to Hong Kong after the war before coming back home. Even had a pair of his initalled pyjamas still inside!

Any help on this would help greatly.

Are there any Alpha Numeric markings embossed on the box anywhere? Probably on the bottom.

Doesn't look like a wartime ammunition box. Could be one of the flat pack transit boxes that were issued in the 50's-60's They had dimensions stamped in the panels.
Cheers
Gary
