Hello and Happy Christmas to all,
Can anyone let me have any information about a 1917 German 7.7cm HE shell and the Field Gun which fired it?
I have a complete round which I want to restore so it would be helpfull if I could find out the colour scheme for the HE projectile as well?
Many thanks in advance,
Best festive regards,
Guy.

Guy,

If you use the search feature, you will find a huge amount of info on the 7.7 cm here in the BOCN threads. Just put 77mm in the search box.

Many thanks Haz,
I will do that when I've finished preparing the rib of beef for dinner!
Happy Christmas,
Guy.

High,

there are different HE shells with thin and thick cast iron walls ect.
I will upload some color drawings soon. It will be helpful to see a pic of your shell.

Thank you, I will be very interested to see the drawings. Here are a few pictures of the shell in question.
Cheers,
Guy.

Hi Navyman,

here a list of models of 7,7 cm HE shells :

- C-Geschoss der F.K.16
- K.Gr.14
- K.Gr.15
- F.K.Gr.96
- K.Gr.15 m.P.
- K.Gr.16
- Lg.F.K.Gr.

I don't think my list complete.
Make your choice.

To determine your shell, some dimensions should be helpful like length, width of drivingband,..., markings of shell and/or fuze,...

7.7

I found a couple of pictures of my old 7.7. It now lives in the Liberty Memorial Museum in Kansas.

With this thickness of the wall it's a K.Gr.15 (same outer shape as the K.Gr.14, but more place for filling due to improved material)

Hello all,
Thank you for you for your replies. Here are the dimensions asked for;

Fuze; KZ4
15 F
Projectile length without fuze; 24.3 Cm's
Fuze length when seated in case; 48.64mm (approx).
Drive band diameter; 78.0mm
Drive band thickness; 9.96mm
Projectile thickness at theaded part; 8.62mm
Projectile thickness inside, below threaded part; 14.93mm
Case length; 23Cm's
Headstamp;
St
280
POLTE
April 1917
MAGDEBURG
Sp 406

The dimensions are as accurate as I can get them, my calipers are not the best!
Hope this is of some use?
Thanks again,
Guy.
PS, I will be in hospital from the 30th December for at least seven days so wont be able to reply during that time.
