WW2 Leather case What is it for ?

This has no markings, nor anything inside to indicate it's use.
Exceptionally well made. Another the same is apparently dated
1942 with a maker name.

12 1/8" long, 5" wide, 6 1/4" height.

Has any one seen one before and know the use ?

The rings on the catches would appear to be for the fitting of padlocks . I would suggest it may be a document case or similar .
 
Here is a look at the other one, the inside really don't give any clue. Mine had stuff added which I removed. Markings are nice but
I doubt they will help. I'm going to obtain this one also, so if some one figures out what these are for and needs one there will be no
problem as they are not expensive at all. I'm thinking a military optical instrument of some sort. Maybe a transit something the Engineers or Sappers might use.
