Hi Waff,
They are in cracking condition, just whats needed to finish those fuzes off, well done on sourcing those as i reckon they are harder to find than the fuzes ? Did they all start off being steel and then switch to bakerlite later on in the war or were only some gaines made of bakerlite. Thanks for showing us, Best regards Weasel.

Cheers Weeze,
As far as im aware, all the ariel bomb gaines were made of steel?
Ive examples of the smaller gaines like the ones found on SD2's that are bakelite.
Maybe one of our colleauges in here might have a bakelite ariel bomb gaine to show?

cheers

The slots are too thin for a standard bomb fuze gaine.

I also have a bomb fuze gaine tin (from Fjordhouse) - same length and width, same green felt and wooden interior, but shorter and with only 4 holes.

Some very nice gaines there paul and by chance i to have a minty boxed set of steel bomb fuse gaines courtousy of Ben:wink:

But another nice little addition are these full size bakerlite bomb fuse gaines complete with the capsule that contained the explosive.
All now very empty and FFE but nice to have the inerds as they are fragile.

This type of gaine was used on most of the short container fuses.

Very nice Phil,
I really did not know they made bakelite gaines but it does make sense. :)

first:wink: but nice to see some more examples to.

Best phil

And for the record, here's my gaine tin from Ben at Stoneleigh. Yet another different maker mark I notice.

I have seen several of these small capsules in AB70 dropping container fuzes, together with bakelite gaines. There was only on capsule in each gaine and filled with rifle powder - not too large load to break the container but just to push it open.
